The Earl of Kent sent some people to take care of King Lear. However, King Lear had escaped from these captors when they were off guard. While he was wandering near Dover, the emissaries of Cordelia found him. By that time, King Lear was totally insane, he walked about singing loudly and he wore the crown made of grass upon his head.
Cordelia brought King Lear to the army of France and called a doctor took care for him. The doctor gave him some herbs to make him sink into a deep sleep. Cordelia knelt before the bed of King Lear and kissed her father. She hoped there was some good medicine on her lips that could cure her father's insanity. She wished her kiss could take away her father's hurt that was caused by her two elder sisters.
After a while King Lear awoke there by his bedside was Cordelia, the daughter he had treated so cruelly. He felt ashamed and guilty, and pleaded with her, "Please forgive me. I have sinned against you. I am so confused." The father and the daughter embracing cried on each other's shoulder.
